AI security cameras and CCTV in Newcastle

Newcastle combines a working harbour, old workers' cottages, surf suburbs and Hunter industrial estates. We supply, configure and support Dahua AI camera systems planned around that mix.

Cottages, terraces and the inner east

Cooks Hill, Hamilton and Islington have rows of older cottages and terraces with small front yards and lanes at the back. Merewether and the beachside suburbs lean more to larger houses and renovated homes. In older streets, the front door and rear lane gate are the main targets. In the inner east, walls and fences are low, so a camera angle that watches the footpath edge is as important as one at the door.

We supply, install, configure and support Dahua systems, and we scope remotely first. Scheduling and coverage are confirmed when we quote.

Salt, wind and the southerly

Newcastle is a coastal city with a strong sea breeze and the occasional southerly change. Salt-laden air attacks cheap brackets and exposed fixings, especially at Merewether, Bar Beach and anywhere near the harbour. Stainless or well-coated fittings and sealed cable entries make a long-term difference. Wind-driven rain can also make it hard to see through a lens, so we look at how weather hits each camera position.

Harbour apartments

Honeysuckle, Wickham and the East End have more apartments. Shared car parks, lift lobbies and bike stores are the usual requests of owners corporations. See apartments and body corporate and common areas. Residents with individual cameras should keep views limited to their own entries and balconies.

Port, industrial and trade sites

Newcastle has a long working-port and heavy-industry history, and the industrial suburbs around Mayfield, Beresfield and Kotara still carry yards, depots and workshops. After-hours risks usually centre on gates, containers, vehicles and tools. Helpful options include:

  1. Vehicle detection on compatible systems, to flag vehicles entering a yard.
  2. Intrusion detection with a time schedule.
  3. Intelligent video search to find events quickly.

See also workshops and commercial properties. If your site is large, extra cabling and a PoE switch may be needed, which we cover in the plan.

Retail and hospitality

Hunter Street shops, Darby Street cafes and suburban strips like Charlestown and Lambton share concerns: after-hours rear access, till areas and stockrooms. Our pages on retail stores and restaurants and cafes go into layouts.

Setup you can use on day one

After installation, we configure the recorder, AI detection and the DMSS mobile app, and show you how to view cameras and play back footage. We do not use port forwarding for remote access.

Privacy and signage in New South Wales

For example, the Surveillance Devices Act 2007 and the Workplace Surveillance Act 2005 are relevant in NSW. This is general information, not legal advice, so check current legislation for your own situation. Audio is treated more strictly than video, staff should be told about cameras, and cameras should avoid toilets, change rooms and neighbours' private spaces.

Frequently asked questions

Will salt air ruin outdoor cameras?

Not if fittings and seals are chosen well. It is a standard planning point near the coast.

Can I monitor a depot from home?

Yes, through DMSS on a phone, subject to a working internet connection.

Is a single camera enough for a terrace?

Often a front and a rear camera suit better, with the back lane being the weak point.

Can the system alert me only at night?

On compatible systems, intrusion zones can be limited to chosen hours.

How do I search hours of footage?

Intelligent search on compatible systems helps locate people and vehicles faster than watching playback.
