Security Cameras for Workshops and Trade Premises

Tools, vehicles and stock are worth real money, and workshops are often empty overnight. We install Dahua camera systems that keep watch while you are away.

What worries workshop owners

Most workshop owners we speak to describe the same few problems. Tools walk out the back door. A roller door gets forced after hours. A customer vehicle is damaged on site and nobody can say when. Or the shed sits quiet all weekend and you spend Saturday night wondering about it.

Workshops are hard to watch because they are busy by day and empty by night. Dust and shadows are everywhere. A basic motion camera in that environment can fire a lot of false alerts, and owners soon stop looking at them.

Where the cameras go, and why

We start with a site assessment, walking the premises with you. Placement follows the way thieves and accidents actually happen.

  • The roller door and front entry. This is the main route in and out. A camera here records who arrives, who leaves and when.
  • The rear door and yard gate. Back access is where after-hours entry tends to happen, so it gets its own view.
  • Tool storage and parts cages. A camera covering the cage or tool wall gives you a record if something goes missing.
  • The yard or car park. Customer vehicles and your own trailers sit here overnight.
  • The counter or service desk. Useful for disputes about what was handed over and when.

We choose lenses and infrared range to suit each view. If you want to understand the reasoning in more depth, our buying guides explain placement in neutral terms.

How AI detection helps

Where your system is built on compatible cameras and a compatible recorder, AI detection changes the kind of alert you receive.

Human detection separates a person from swaying trees, passing headlights and animals. That can cut the noise that makes plain motion alerts so tiresome. Intrusion detection lets us draw a virtual zone across your yard or workshop floor, so you can be notified if a person enters it after closing time. A tripwire across the gate works the same way, flagging a person or vehicle crossing the line.

If a tool is missing on Monday, intelligent video search on compatible systems helps you locate people or vehicles in the footage instead of watching a whole weekend of recordings. AI features vary depending on the selected camera and recorder, and entry-level systems may offer basic motion detection only. We tell you which applies before you commit.

Using DMSS from the bench

Once installed, the system connects to the DMSS app on your phone. You can check the yard from your ute, play back footage from last night, and open an alert to see what triggered it. Remote access is set up securely through DMSS and sensible network configuration, not by opening up your router.

You can also share access with a partner or trusted staff member. We configure the app with you and show you how it works.

Plan for these things

A few points are worth thinking about before we quote.

  1. Dust, heat and grease. Workshop environments are tough on equipment. Tell us about grinding, spray work or heat so we can choose suitable housings and locations.
  2. After-hours lighting. Cameras work with infrared in the dark, but some lighting helps colour detail. We can discuss this on site.
  3. Staff and signage. Many states and territories have workplace-surveillance rules, and notifying staff and displaying signs matters. This is general information, not legal advice, so check your own state's rules.
  4. Storage. The recorder keeps footage on surveillance hard drives. The days you want to keep and the number of cameras decide the drive size.
  5. Future changes. Adding a bay later is straightforward.

Coverage and scheduling are confirmed when we quote. Call 1300 263 551 or see how a job runs on our how it works page. If your premises are larger, our warehouse page may also help.

Frequently asked questions

Can the cameras see inside a dark workshop?

Most professional cameras have infrared night vision, and we choose and position them to suit your space. Image quality depends on the selected camera and the lighting.

Will a hot or dusty workshop damage the cameras?

Harsh environments need suitable housings and sensible mounting positions. We discuss this during the site assessment.

Can I watch my workshop from home?

Yes, through the DMSS app once your system is configured. You can view live video and play back recordings.

Do I need to tell my employees about the cameras?

Workplace surveillance rules differ by state and territory, and notifying staff generally matters. This is general information, not legal advice, so check your own state's requirements.
