Queensland stretches from the Tweed border to the tip of Cape York, so a camera plan that makes sense in Ashgrove can be wrong for a cane farm outside Bundaberg. Our office is at Currumbin Waters on the Gold Coast, which gives us a feel for the south-east corner, but the service runs across the whole state. Scheduling and coverage for your address are confirmed when we quote.
The Queensland house, and where the cameras go
Queensland homes have their own habits. High-set Queenslanders on stumps have open undercroft areas where cars, bikes, tools and washing machines live, and those spaces are often the real target. Low-set brick homes in the newer estates around Ipswich, Springfield and Caloundra tend to have double garages, side gates and wide front lawns. Canal homes on the Gold Coast have water frontage and a back gate to a jetty.
Common requests here include:
- The undercroft and stair entrance on a high-set home.
- Side gates and the gap between houses where people walk through.
- Garages and driveways, including trailers and boats on the property.
- Pool fences and back doors on homes where children and visitors come and go. Cameras are about watching, not a replacement for compliant pool barriers.
- Backyards and gates on acreage blocks in places like the Hinterland and Moreton Bay region.
Heat, humidity and the wet season
Queensland weather is the main thing to plan around.
Humidity and condensation. In Cairns, Townsville and Mackay, wet-season humidity works its way into poorly sealed fittings. Cable entries need proper sealing, and we try to choose positions where equipment is not baking in direct afternoon sun.
Cyclone-prone coast. North of Gladstone, the cyclone season affects how cameras should be mounted and what you do before a storm. Mounts need to be solid, and cabling should be tidy and secured. Recorders belong inside, preferably up off the floor in areas that may flood.
Lightning. Summer thunderstorms across south-east Queensland are among the most intense in the country. Long cable runs between house and shed, or to a gate, can carry surge. We talk about surge protection and sensible earthing, particularly for outbuildings.
Flooding. After the 2011 and 2022 floods, many Brisbane and Ipswich owners think about which equipment sits low. Putting the recorder and network gear above likely water level is a sensible choice.
Dust and heat inland. In the Western Downs, Central West and further out, red dust and 40-degree days affect recorder placement and ventilation.
Businesses, from the Brisbane river to the mine
Brisbane's business mix includes trade yards around Rocklea, Archerfield and Eagle Farm, hospitality in Fortitude Valley and West End, and offices through the CBD and Milton. On the Gold Coast, workshops and warehouses cluster around Burleigh, Currumbin and Molendinar. The Sunshine Coast has the Kunda Park and Maroochydore industrial areas. Further north, Townsville and Mackay serve ports, mines and heavy industry.
For these, we most often set up:
- Retail stores and cafes, where after-hours alerts and shopfront coverage matter.
- Workshops and trade yards with tools and vehicles on site overnight.
- Construction sites, which change layout as the build progresses.
- Multi-site operators who want every premises in the same app.
Remote setup in a very large state
Many Queensland customers are a long way from a capital, or a long way from their own property. Think of a fly-in worker with a house in Mackay, an owner in Brisbane with a holiday unit at Hervey Bay, or a farmer who is out in the paddock all day.
So we scope remotely first. You send photos of the entry points, eaves, switchboard and router, plus a rough sketch. We ask what you want to see, and we write the proposal from that. Where something needs checking, we say so and confirm it before work begins.
After installation, the DMSS mobile app gives you live view, playback, alerts and shared access on your phone. Remote access is configured securely, without port forwarding. Mobile coverage can be patchy on rural roads and in some hinterland valleys. The recorder keeps recording locally either way, and a 4G backup can be discussed where the connection matters.
What AI alerts add in a place like this
Queensland produces a lot of false triggers for plain motion alarms. Palm fronds, flying foxes at dusk, cane toads, geckos on lenses, and heavy rain all show up. On compatible systems, human detection helps filter out much of that, so the alerts you receive are more likely to be about a person. Zones and tripwires let you set a rule such as "tell me if a person enters the undercroft after 9pm".
AI features vary depending on the selected camera and recorder, and entry-level systems may offer basic motion detection only. We tell you what your chosen system can do before you commit.

A note on surveillance rules
Rules differ between states and territories. For example, Queensland has the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971. In general terms, audio is treated more strictly than video, signage and telling staff matter, cameras do not belong in toilets or change rooms, and cameras should not look into a neighbour's private spaces. This is general information, not legal advice. Please check current legislation for your own situation.
Frequently asked questions
Do you install outside South East Queensland?
The service covers the whole state, including regional and northern Queensland. How the work is arranged at your address, and when, is confirmed when we quote.
Will humidity damage the cameras in the tropics?
Properly sealed fittings and sensible placement make a big difference. We choose mounts and cable entries with wet-season conditions in mind, and ask where the recorder will live.
Can I use my existing cameras?
Sometimes. It depends on the cameras and the recorder. We can look at what you have and tell you honestly what is worth keeping.
What happens during a power outage in a storm?
Cameras and recorders stop without power unless there is backup. For sites where this matters, we can discuss a small battery backup for the recorder and network gear.
Can I watch my Queensland holiday house from interstate?
Yes, with a working internet connection at the property and DMSS on your phone. You can view live, play back footage and receive alerts.
