Most people have never had a camera system installed. You may wonder how long it takes, what we will ask of you, and who sorts out the fiddly parts. This page walks through it in order. Exact timing depends on your site, and we confirm scheduling when we quote.
The journey
1. Site assessment
What happens: We look at your property, or talk it through with you first. We note entry points, lighting, where cables could run, where the router sits and what you most want to see.
What we need from you: A plain description of your concerns, access to the areas in question, and a rough idea of who should be able to view cameras.
What you get: A clear picture of what is worth covering and a basis for an accurate quote.
2. Camera selection
What happens: We choose Dahua cameras to suit each location. Lens, resolution, night performance and AI capability all vary, and we match them to the job.
What we need from you: Your priorities. Do you mainly want to know about people, vehicles, or both?
What you get: A camera list with a plain-English note on what each one can and cannot detect. AI features vary depending on the selected camera and recorder.
3. Professional installation and cabling
What happens: We mount the cameras, run the cabling and position everything to capture useful footage.
What we need from you: Agreement on camera positions and access on the day.
What you get: Neat, secure cabling and cameras aimed where they will actually help.
4. Network configuration
What happens: We connect the system to your network and set it up so remote access works securely through DMSS, with sensible network configuration.
What we need from you: Access to your router or network equipment, and your internet provider details if we need them.
What you get: A stable connection between cameras, recorder and your phone.
5. NVR, recording and AI detection configuration
What happens: We set up the Dahua network video recorder (NVR), choose continuous or event recording, and configure the AI detection your equipment supports. That may include human detection, vehicle detection, intrusion zones or tripwires.
What we need from you: Which areas matter, and which hours should trigger alerts.
What you get: Recording on surveillance hard drives sized for your cameras, and detection rules that fit your property. See NVR recording and storage for more.
6. DMSS setup and smartphone notifications
What happens: We install and configure DMSS on your phone or tablet, add your system and set up notifications for the events you chose.
What we need from you: Your smartphone, and the names of anyone else who should have access.
What you get: Live viewing, playback and alerts in your pocket. Read more about the DMSS mobile app.
7. Training, troubleshooting and ongoing support
What happens: We show you how to view cameras, play back footage and respond to alerts. We test everything with you before we finish. Afterwards, we remain your contact for faults and changes.
What we need from you: A little time to try the app with us and ask questions.
What you get: Confidence using your system, and a number to call. Our support page explains what that covers.
Why the steps matter
Skipping steps is how people end up with cameras that record but never alert, or alerts that arrive at the wrong time. Each step feeds the next. Placement affects footage, footage affects detection, and detection affects the alerts you receive.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be home for the installation?
Usually someone needs to give us access. We agree the details when we quote.
Will I be left to figure out the app myself?
No. DMSS setup and training are part of the job, and we show you how to view cameras and play back footage.
Can I change things after the install?
Yes. Changing alert rules, adding cameras and adjusting who can view the system are all things we can help with later.
Who do I call if something goes wrong?
Call us on 1300 263 551. Our hours are Monday to Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm AEST, and Saturday by appointment.
